Why Sedation Might Be Recommended

Dental anxiety is one of the most common reasons people put off care they genuinely need. Sedation makes it possible to move forward — safely and on your terms. Our team may recommend sedation if you:

  • Experience dental anxiety or have had a difficult procedure in the past
  • Are undergoing a complex or lengthy surgery
  • Have a strong gag reflex or a medical condition that makes treatment more challenging
  • Simply want to feel relaxed and at ease rather than tense throughout your visit

There’s no threshold you must meet to ask about sedation. If it would help you feel better, that’s reason enough to discuss it.

Your Sedation Options

We offer several levels of sedation, and together we’ll find the right fit for your procedure and your comfort level.

  • Local Anesthesia: Numbs only the treatment area and is used for straightforward, minor procedures. You remain fully awake and aware throughout.
  • Oral Sedation: Involves taking medication before your appointment to help you feel calm and drowsy. You stay responsive but relaxed — a good fit for moderate anxiety.
  • IV Sedation: Is delivered directly into the bloodstream, creating a deep state of relaxation. Most patients have little to no memory of the procedure afterward, which can make future visits feel more doable.
  • General Anesthesia: Is used for more extensive cases and involves being fully asleep under close monitoring. This is typically reserved for hospital-based procedures.

A Closer Look at IV Sedation

IV sedation is one of the most effective options available for patients with moderate to severe anxiety. Because it’s administered intravenously, the level of sedation can be precisely controlled throughout your procedure. Your heart rate, oxygen levels, and blood pressure are monitored continuously by our team the entire time.

Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how manageable the experience feels — and how little they remember. That amnesia effect is one of the reasons IV sedation tends to reduce anxiety around future visits as well.

Why Choose Us for Dental Implants?

Our surgeons have placed hundreds of implants across both our Grove City and Powell locations, and they bring a level of surgical expertise that goes well beyond general dentistry. As oral and maxillofacial surgeons, implant placement is a core part of their specialty.

We use 3D CBCT imaging and intraoral scanning to plan every case with precision, so there are no surprises. And because we offer bone grafting, sinus lifts, extractions, and sedation all under one roof, most patients can complete their entire implant journey with us — from consultation to final restoration.

We treat every patient the way we’d treat our own family. That means honest answers, personalized care, and a team that stays with you every step of the way.
